The importance of application of sugarcane bagasse

Sugarcane bagasse, an indispensable byproduct of the sugar industry, is the primary component remaining after sugarcane is mechanically pressed. It falls under the category of agricultural solid waste, but what is remarkable is that sugarcane bagasse contains a high percentage of cellulose, ranging from 32% to 48%, with hemicellulose accounting for approximately 19% to 24%, and lignin content between 23% and 32%. Additionally, it contains other components making up 4% of its composition. As a result, sugarcane bagasse has attracted significant attention from researchers in recent years, with an increasing number of studies exploring its potential applications.

The Application of Sugarcane Bagasse in Papermaking

Sugarcane bagasse is a high-quality raw material for pulp and paper production, with a cellulose content of up to 32%–48%. In Guangxi, this region has become a major producer of sugarcane bagasse paper. Sugarcane bagasse can be used to produce everyday items such as packaging paper, glossy paper, and toilet paper, as well as a variety of high-grade papers, such as coated paper, copy paper, double-coated paper, high-grade toilet paper, and napkins.
